Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average compared to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best automatic vacuum cleaner robot mop and automatic vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
